Heroes are not just those who wear masks and “save the world” or those who are donned with beguiling costumes and capes, and fly. They can be someone who has the courage to sacrifice their lives for others, and can inspire people with their valor and valiance. They can be that neighbor who has helped you once or twice in times of need, or that colleague who has been diligently working for his family, or that man in the mirror whose every simple act of kindness can act as a catalyst of positive change in the society.
Today, we are paying tribute to heroes from the past and the present as we commemorate the National Heroes Day. And for this occasion, we’ve gathered a list of songs that celebrate these incredible people:
1. “My Hero” by The Foo Fighters
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He’s ordinary
Don’t the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out?
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
According to Dave Grohl, he wrote this song because he feels he never had any heroes growing up. This song pays homage to the heroes we could find from all walks of life — nurses, firefighters, teachers, community volunteers, parents, among others — that make our lives better.
2. “Heroes and Friends” by Randy Travis
I ain’t live forever but I’ve lived enough
And I’ve learned to be gentle and I’ve learned to be tough
I’ve found only two things that last to the end
One is your heroes and the other your friends
Your heroes will help you find good in yourself
Your friends won’t forsake you for somebody else
They’ll both stand beside you through thick and through thin
And that’s how it goes with heroes and friends
This song by country superstar Randy Travis is deemed as one of the best country songs about gallantry. It mentions about how your heroes and your friends could help you in times of hurdles and challenges.
3. “Everyday Superhero” by Smash Mouth
I’m just your average ordinary everyday superhero
Trying to save the world, but never really sure
I’m just your average ordinary everyday superhero
Nothing more than that, that’s all I really am
Just a day job that’s someone’s gotta do
It’s kinda hard when everyone looks up to you
Try to make it look easy, gonna make it look good
Like anybody would
Everyday superheroes are the people who do their very best in everything they do. Released in 2006, this Smash Mouth track was also featured as one of the soundtracks for the Vin Diesel film “The Pacifier.”
4. “Go the Distance” by Michael Bolton
But to look beyond the glory is the hardest part
For a hero’s strength is measured by his heart, oh
Like a shooting star, I will go the distance
I will search the world, I will face its harms
I don’t care how far, I can go the distance
‘Till I find my hero’s welcome waiting in your arms
Reaching for your dreams is likened to reaching for the stars. Armed with courage to climb the uphill slope, a hero who has a strong heart never loses hope until he reaches the end of his journey and accomplishes it victoriously.
5. “Wind Beneath My Wings” – Bette Midler
I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strength
Only a face without a name
I never once heard you complain
Did you ever know that you’re my hero
And everything I’d like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
With you as the wind beneath my wings
This Bette Midler classic is an ode dedicated to the person who has always been there to support you and act as your wings as you soar high in achieving your dreams. The song ranks among the most performed pop and country songs ever and has become a bona fide “standard”, reaching its fame in 1989 and subsequently winning the Grammy Award for Song of The Year.
6. “When You Believe” by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston
Now we are not afraid
Although we know there’s much to fear
We were moving mountains
Long before we knew we could
The power of this soaring ballad lies on the significance of having faith. Affirming that faith can move mountains, any individual can be considered heroes so long as they believe and trust that miracles can happen.
7. “Superheroes” by The Script
‘Cause he’s stronger than you know
A heart of steel starts to grow
When you’ve been fighting for it all your life
You’ve been struggling to make things right
That’s how a superhero learns to fly
Every day, every hour, turn the pain into power
Songs For A Hero For Mac Osx
The one who turns their pain into power are the heroes of their own selves. This is the message of the stirring 2014 track by The Script where strife and struggles grow into a heart of steel.
8. “Hero” by Superchick
Heroes are made when you make a choice
Songs For A Hero For Mac Os
You could be a hero – heroes do what’s right
You could be a hero – you might save a life
You could be a hero- you could join the fight
For what’s right, for what’s right, for what’s right
Stand and fight for what is right. A hero is someone who thinks about the results of his actions, and take responsibility for them. This is what the Superchick wanted to send us through this jam.
9. “Superman” by Five for Fighting
It may sound absurd but don’t be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed but won’t you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream
It’s not easy to be me
Superheroes are human too. This is the poignant message carried by this chart-topping track from Five for Fighting. A radio staple since 2000, this track delves on the vulnerability of heroes often stereotyped as powerful, tough and immune from being hurt.
10. “Hero” by Mariah Carey
There’s a hero if you look inside your heart,
You don’t have to be afraid of what you are.
And There’s an answer, if you reach into your soul,
And the sorrow that you know will melt away.
Songs For A Hero For Mac Catalina
And then a hero comes along,
With the strength to carry on.
And you cast your fears aside,
And you know you can survive.
So, when you feel like hope is gone,
Just Look inside you and be strong.
And you’ll finally see the truth,
That a hero lies in you
Songs For Clone Hero Mac
This song from Mariah Carey inspires people to believe in themselves. When the world seems to be cruel and you’re feeling alone, you can still succeed, with the help of Someone who has the power to guide you through your journey.
